Transforming a wall into a living work of art is sometimes much more than art—it’s an invitation to see the world around us differently. Through this mural, artist Daphné Doomun offers an immersion into a universe where nature, memory, and imagination meet.
Nature as a source of inspiration and freedom
Through this piece, Daphné sought to transform a simple wall into a window opening onto the wild soul of Mauritius. Her intention was born from a deep desire to celebrate the island’s unique biodiversity by highlighting its endemic natural heritage.
Each painted element serves as a reminder of the richness of this environment.
By stylizing iconic Mauritian birds such as the Mauritius Rail, the Mauritius Cuckooshrike, the Mauritian Bulbul, the Mauritius Olive White-eye, the Pink Pigeon, and the Dodo, the artist conveys a powerful message—one of freedom and the essential reconnection with nature.
Daphné: between design and a poetic universe
Born in Mauritius in 1989, Daphné is a trained graphic designer. A graduate in Visual Communication from the École de Condé in Nancy, she quickly developed a sensitive eye and strong aesthetic standards.
Her professional journey led her to work with prestigious houses such as Kenzo and Parfums Givenchy, where she explored the codes of elegance and the world of luxury.
In 2023, she founded her own studio—a creative space where she brings together her skills as a graphic designer with her practice as an artist and illustrator. There, she develops a personal universe through artistic projects and bespoke collaborations.
A world between dream and reality
Daphné’s universe draws inspiration from an enhanced vision of nature, where joy and melancholy intertwine. Her works explore the boundary between reality and imagination.
At the heart of her compositions, the gaze plays a central role: sometimes hidden, sometimes revealed, it acts as both a protective and observant presence. It invites the viewer into a world rich in color and emotion.
