This month, L’Aventure du Sucre hosted a unique community workshop dedicated to wood painting. This accessible artistic activity allowed each participant to express herself freely in a warm and supportive atmosphere, while nurturing her creativity.
Art as a Means of Expression
Eight women from the NGOs Safire, Caritas Solitude, and the Cité de Pamplemousses neighborhood committee took part in this inspiring initiative, made possible through the support of Terra Foundation. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and the celebration of talent.
Guided by artist Daphné Doomun, the participants explored various wood painting techniques. They gave free rein to their imagination by depicting endemic Mauritian birds, including the kestrel, the Mauritian fody, the pink pigeon, the Mauritian bulbul, the cardinal, the Mauritius olive white-eye, the green broadbill, and the iconic dodo.
With an eco-conscious approach, the artworks were created using recycled materials, giving new life to wood while raising awareness about the importance of sustainability.
Each piece, unique in its own way, reflects the personal world of its creator. Through colors and shapes, emotions were expressed naturally.
A Moment of Sharing and Empowerment
More than just a workshop, this experience helped build self-confidence and foster meaningful connections.
This community initiative perfectly illustrates the mission of L’Aventure du Sucre: to create spaces where culture, creativity, and engagement come together. Beyond the artworks themselves, it is above all stories, emotions, and talents that were revealed.
