Media tour 2026 (1)After more than two years of transformation, L’Aventure du Sucre has unveiled a fully redesigned visitor experience, offering a fresh perspective on sugarcane and its role in the history and development of Mauritius. To mark the occasion, members of the press were invited on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, to an immersive visit showcasing this new museum concept, along with a brand-new space dedicated to New Grove Distillery, seamlessly integrated into the visitor journey.
An exclusive tour of the museum
Spanning over 5,000 square meters, the new layout is structured into nine distinct sequences, tracing the story of sugarcane from the island’s origins to the contemporary challenges facing the industry.
Guided throughout the visit by Edwige Gufflet, CEO of L’Aventure du Sucre, Sandrine Marrier D’Unienville, Head of Cultural Development and Communication, Florence Harel de Coriolis, Rum Brand Manager at Grays, as well as Kevin, our expert guide, journalists were able to explore the various exhibition spaces, interact with the installations, and appreciate the richness of the content on display.
As a natural extension of the tour, they also discovered the new area dedicated to New Grove Distillery. Designed as a true sensory experience, it immerses visitors in the world of rum, highlighting each stage of its production. From fermentation and distillation to barrel aging, the installations offer a deeper understanding of the precision and craftsmanship required to produce high-quality rum. This space also reflects the evolution of the sugarcane industry toward the full valorization of the plant, with rum playing a central role.
Press captivated by an immersive experience
Throughout the visit, feedback was unanimous: the new experience is clearer, more immersive, and its contemporary scenography rivals that of leading international museums—an invitation to rediscover Mauritian heritage from a new perspective.
The morning concluded with lunch at Fangourin, set in a unique environment in the heart of Beau Plan. It was a special moment that allowed for continued discussions in a warm and authentic atmosphere, true to the spirit of the venue.
