Le Fangourin, the restaurant located at the heart of L’Aventure du Sucre in Pamplemousses for the past 23 years, has just received the 2026 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award. This distinction recognises establishments that consistently receive excellent reviews from travellers.
An Exceptional Setting
Just minutes from the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, Le Fangourin is a delightful culinary retreat overlooking Beau Plan Lake and Pieter Both Mountain.
Whether seated under the traditional veranda or on the terrace, guests can enjoy generous, contemporary Mauritian cuisine inspired by local produce and the flavours of the island.
The restaurant’s reputation is built on the quality and consistency of its cuisine: guests know they can always count on an enjoyable experience. As Edwige Gufflet, Director of L’Aventure du Sucre, explains, this trust is what keeps many event organisers coming back year after year, with some even reserving their date for the following year as soon as their event comes to an end.
Mauritian classics such as rougaille de saucisse and the generous Mauritian tasting platter sit alongside original creations such as seared tuna and an authentic dry venison curry from the Rambouillet estate. Homemade desserts, including the famous dark chocolate and molasses fondant and crème brûlée made with fresh vanilla pods, are firm favourites.
For a refreshing break, guests can enjoy iced lemongrass tea made with lemongrass from the garden, as well as signature cocktails crafted with New Grove, Lazy Dodo and Mauricia rums.
The experience appeals just as much to visitors from around the world as it does to Mauritians looking for a welcoming place to enjoy lunch with friends or family, with homemade children’s menus available at family-friendly prices.
Local Cuisine with a Sustainable Approach
At Le Fangourin, great taste goes hand in hand with careful consideration for ingredients and how they are used.
The restaurant’s 100% Mauritian kitchen team, many of whom have been with the restaurant for years, showcases local produce through a generous, elegant and contemporary take on Mauritian cuisine. Le Fangourin follows the 5Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Return to the Earth, reflecting the team’s belief that eating well can go hand in hand with more sustainable practices.
In the kitchen, Chef Kevin Karuppanen explains that portions are carefully considered to minimise excess, while used cooking oil is collected and sent for recycling. Vegetable peelings, bones and fish trimmings are carefully preserved and transformed into homemade stocks and sauces, giving every ingredient a longer life.
This approach reflects the restaurant’s commitment to eating well while consuming more responsibly.
An Award that Celebrates the Whole Team
The 2026 Travellers’ Choice Award shines a light on the dedication and passion of a team committed to its craft.
