For more than 50 years, La Ferme des Bertrand invites us into the intimate world of a dairy farm in Haute-Savoie, and above all into the lives of the people who have kept it alive.
The story begins in 1972, when three farmer brothers open the doors of their farm to a camera for the very first time. A neighbor from the village, filmmaker Gilles Perret meets them again in 1997, at a pivotal moment when they pass the farm on to their nephew Patrick and his wife Hélène. Then, twenty-five years later, he returns once more to follow Hélène as she, in turn, prepares to hand over the reins.
Through their words, gestures, and daily lives, the film tells far more than the story of a single farm. It reveals a deep connection to the land, a passion for the profession, resilience in the face of hardship, and the vital importance of passing knowledge from one generation to the next. These are profoundly human life journeys, shaped by hard work, commitment, and a love for all living things.
Accessible to everyone, even without any background in agriculture, this sensitive and heartfelt documentary offers a valuable perspective on the people who nourish our regions. It is a moving immersion into a world that is often overlooked, restoring dignity to the farming community and reminding us how each generation helps build the future.
