L’Aventure du Sucre is delighted to announce the creation of a brand-new artistic mural on the gears at the site’s entrance !
This original artwork is by Katty Laguette, a Mauritian artist whose talent and sensitivity breathe new life into this industrial relic.
A mural rich in symbolism
The mural is made up of numerous symbolic elements that echo the site’s identity and the richness of its natural environment. It features sugarcane—an iconic emblem of Mauritian history—alongside birds of the Indian Ocean found in Mauritius, such as the tropicbird (paille-en-queue), the Mauritius cardinal, and the cape canary. It also incorporates elements of the island’s flora and fauna: hibiscus, heliconia, jamalac fruits, and tropical flowers like the Bird of Paradise. Together, these elements form a composition that invites contemplation from the moment you arrive.
Showcasing local art and supporting Mauritian artists
Expressing the Mauritian experience through every brushstroke, Katty is a visual artist deeply passionate about Mauritian culture, wildlife, and flora. She has been active on both the local and international art scenes for many years.
In 2011, after four years of study at the School of Fine Arts of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Art, specializing in Multimedia. Over the years, she has had the opportunity to take part in various art workshops and short film festivals, collaborate with both established and emerging artists, exhibit her work in Mauritius and abroad, and learn new techniques in multimedia and the arts.
An art workshop facilitator one day, a muralist the next, a live performance painter for events or a stop-motion animator soon after, Katty is truly a passionate multidisciplinary artist.
This initiative reflects L’Aventure du Sucre’s strong commitment to promoting local art and supporting Mauritian artists. By integrating artistic expression at the very heart of the visitor journey, the site reaffirms its desire to offer an immersive, vibrant, and inspiring cultural experience.
