New eco-friendly works to discover at the heart of the museum

At L’Aventure du Sucre, art is an integral part of the visitor experience. From the very entrance to the site, with murals created by local artists such as Joshila Dhaby, Daphné Doomun, Valérie Latreille, Baba Gaia, Sapna Bissoondooyal, Katty Laguette, Dévid, and Brian Lamoureux, to the interior of the exhibition trail featuring works by Thierry Permal and Armand Gachet, we proudly showcase the talents of our region.

In this same spirit, we invited Élodie Jacobée to reinterpret one of the museum’s iconic objects. The artist had previously visited L’Aventure du Sucre during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Octobre Rose) to lead a creative solidarity workshop with women from the NGO Link to Life. It was a meaningful collaboration that we are delighted to continue today through this new artistic creation.

A Unique and Committed Work

During your visit to L’Aventure du Sucre, keep your eyes open: a colorful surprise awaits you along the exhibition path…

If this ox is displayed in the museum, it is no coincidence. In the past, sugar cane was transported to factories in carts pulled by oxen. This animal therefore embodies an essential part of the island’s agricultural and sugar heritage. A symbol of field labor and cane transport, it holds a special place in the visitor journey, recalling the working conditions and craftsmanship of earlier times.

For this new 2026 version, Élodie Jacobée — an eco-committed artist and founder of Ateliers Poisson Plume — has chosen to celebrate Color, dressing this emblematic ox in a vibrant, exotic coat. She plays with contrasting hues, soft rounded shapes, and delicate details. Each motif blends nature and creativity, while remaining true to the artist’s core values: giving objects a second life and revealing their poetic potential.

Alongside it, take a moment to admire a cow designed by Brian Lamoureux, Mauritian artist and designer. Side by side, these two animals — reimagined by talents from distinct creative worlds — create an original artistic dialogue at the heart of the museum.
